AI receptionist for plumbers

A new leak repair and a question about yesterday’s visit need different next steps. Relay connects your business calls with your customer records, service jobs and schedule.

Part of Relay’s field service software, with scheduling, estimates and invoices. See pricing and included usage.

The next step depends on why the customer called

Scripted examples with sample data, not live AI calls. The four-hour arrival windows shown are illustrative; your business configures its own windows.

What the caller needs

“The kitchen tap is leaking. Could someone come and take a look?”

A new customer needs a repair visit, with the service address still to confirm.

  1. Collect the customer and property details without assuming the caller’s address.
  2. Check the service area and an opening that fits the work.
  3. Confirm the selected arrival window and create the service job.

What happens next

Follow this example to see the resulting booking or owner handoff.

Keep the question connected to the work

A returning caller may need an update on an estimate, a part or an unfinished repair. Treating every call as a fresh booking can leave the real question unanswered. Relay keeps calls and texts with the customer so the conversation can continue with context.

For a new service request, Relay gathers the property and job details, checks coverage and availability, and confirms the chosen window before creating the job. For a question it should not decide, it brings the conversation to you. See customer and work history in Relay.

If you reply to take over a text conversation, Relay pauses its automated texts there until you let it continue. The customer’s latest request and your next action stay together.

Keep one business conversation, whoever answers

When you answer, you can see the customer and their open work. When you cannot, Relay can answer. Call details and available transcripts and summaries keep the request in context; texts stay with the customer conversation. See the business phone workflow.

AI answering and missed-call follow-up are separate. With missed-call follow-up enabled, Relay can text eligible callers you could not reach. AI replies to new callers need to be enabled separately. Otherwise, you handle the text reply.

Compare the handoff as well as the greeting. Our Jobber vs Housecall Pro guide includes a test of customer replies, technician access and callback ownership.
